Why, hello there. I am so happy to meet you!

Allow me to introduce myself. I am the new Worth1000. Is this your first time meeting the new me? We should get reacquainted then. So many things are different about me now. Come and learn more :).

Global CouncilArena Admin Kookaburra said 5 months ago 10/11/2009 11:47:15 AM EDT

Here is the place to start brainstorming about contests! They can be musical, spoken or just strange noises. Write 'em down and as a group we will pick the ones we want to go with first.

Remember copyright laws - we might have some tools at our disposal for some ideas (like covering songs) but the entry will always have to be your own work.

And if you have not yet checked out Myna, click on the little gray arrow in the lower right of your screen and pick AUDIO. It's that easy.

Arena Admin LadyMin said 5 months ago 10/11/2009 11:53:15 AM EDT

To add to Kook's invitation: You can not only add your ideas here. You can also "heart" a posting idea to show that you like it and would probably enter. That gives us a guidelines which ideas the community would like to realize first. Sort of like a poll.

So if you have got several ideas, it is easier to put each of them in a separate posting.

The Ten Commandsments of Worth: Invent our very own ten commandments, the things every Worthian has to abide by.

Record them. Distort your voice or underlay a score to make it sound more imposing and commanding.

Being funny is encouraged. ;)

How about somebody post a picture of nature of whatever and then people have to compose a little music to go with that picture and the one that matches the picture the most wins ( : just a thought

deaddonkeysrule said 5 months ago 10/11/2009 2:59:53 PM EDT

i really like eureka7's idea!!

or even better, we can have a photography contest and then the audio contest is to pick one photo from the contest and make a three minute soundtrack to what audio you feel that picture looks like it should have. you post the link to the picture you chose in the comments under your audio mix.

or you could just pic a picture yourself.

i love the idea though eureka. i just think it might be more fun if everyone had different pictures

MrAverage said 5 months ago 10/11/2009 3:11:23 PM EDT

I mentioned this on another post. Take a poem from some of the wonderful textors and do a dramatic reading then have a musical underscore that matches the one of the poem.

P.S. It would be interesting if the entrants all did the same poem.

Nice ideas until now =)

My ideas:
- Just for starters, a mix contest using one or two themes provided by the Myna library;
- Songwriting/Composition (with or without voice) - may need the use of other kind of program (Sibelius, FruityLoops, Finale and, I hope so, Aviary's future release Roc). Anyway, final editing can be done with Myna;
- Songwriting/Composition (with or without voice)using REAL instruments - maybe this is a little too much...;
- With proper authorizations, remix(es) of existing themes/songs (it would be nice to have some "big name" sponsoring/endorsing this;
- Teamwork with Text Arenas: Audiobooks (well, sort of);
- (or) Audiobooks (at least partial) from famous writers (with their authorization/endorsement/sponsoring...);
- Mix-a-worthian-or-more/Mix-wars - just like the related contests in other areas, where users allow some sound voice/sound samples and contestants do whatever they like =)

I'll probably come back with more :)

We might have more than a few folks who compose in one way or another that would love to do complex instrumental or digital music. It would really behoove us to find a way to discourage shoeboxing.

One cool way might be an audio themepost!

For example, imagine a simple 5 note sequence that artists have to use as the central theme/motif in any genre, tempo, meter, and rhythm they want. Another idea would be to have a word theme accompanying some given notes, say, "tranquility" or "tension."

I love this idea, too! One heart is not enough for it! :D

I really like this.

Another idea wold be to use only the intro and exit bits to make a full song in Myna.

MrAverage said 5 months ago 10/11/2009 8:49:31 PM EDT

I don't know if this one would work but take some clips from classical music and make mixes.

Arena Admin LadyMin said 5 months ago 10/12/2009 3:42:34 AM EDT

Good idea, MrA. We could even start out easy and say "Take a clip out of the free Myna library" (there is tons of free useable music there) and mix it up.

We want easy contests first that do not present any "OMG how do I do this" burdens, to see what people like most.

Regoch said 5 months ago 10/12/2009 7:45:42 AM EDT

Orion1977, using REAL instruments would be nice. Is a keyboard controller real enough or do we have to dust off our Boesendorfers? :)

Another one:
"Compose" something using only street sounds.

Or maybe we should do our tribute to the "one minute song" projects through the years, something like Miniatures from the 1980.

Arena Admin LadyMin said 5 months ago 10/13/2009 4:18:55 AM EDT

Something which, if people like it enough, can be turned into a series:

"Read me a ..."

- ballad
- limerick
- poem, free choice
- paragraph of a fave book
- children's story

Recordings may be underlayed with score music.

pennylanie said 5 months ago 10/15/2009 10:04:42 AM EDT

This may seem like a dumb question... or maybe it's already here, but a while back I was thinking how much fun it would be to have a movie type of arena. To have a 3-5 minute movie on a topic, (since it's nearly Halloween, perhaps a spooky movie contest) Please let me know if that is here, it seems like since there is an audio contest area, a short movie area might be available also.

Thank you!!!

Yes, we can do short movies. Probably not for this Halloween because we are still getting our bearings with the new site, but certainly once we know how everything works we should try some video contests. (This is probably one of the buttons in the control room I am still afraid to push for fear of breaking Worth).

But this should certainly be on the calendar!

Arena Admin LadyMin said 5 months ago 10/17/2009 3:31:05 PM EDT

I know that animation contests are planned, so why not video? Multimedia IS the arena to try new things out, and if it works smoothly and enough people like it, the kids can grow up to be arenas of their own. :)

To give you a status update: We ARE currently testing out the audio option so that it is not too buggy when we throw it to the lions (means: you). Continue to check out your hardware, play with Myna, and stay tuned for news. ;)

Can't wait to enter =)

Deschain420 said 5 months ago 11/3/2009 2:15:31 PM EDT

I know we're waiting for regular audio contests...but I was curious, are we able to have an audio H2H in the interim, or are there still rules that need to be defined?

Alternately, actually writing arrangements on a piece would be cool, though I'm not sure how many takers there would be for that.

Treason said 4 months ago 11/20/2009 7:18:07 PM EDT

Woah, I might actually get my boyfriend to join in on something on Worth! :D

LatueofStiberty said 4 months ago 11/20/2009 11:24:23 PM EDT

I cannot wait for this!
Can we use any software for these contests or do we have to use Myna?

Arena Moderator Quest007 said 4 months ago 11/20/2009 11:37:28 PM EDT

The more the merrier Treason!
I have a feeling that once the technical bugs get worked out, the audio contests are going to be very popular around here. :)

johntooker said 4 months ago 11/20/2009 11:57:25 PM EDT

-Some DVDs have short clips with a part of the movie without music. Maybe taking something like that and have everyone compose a score to the scene?

-Pick a winning Worth1000 image and have us create the sound track which could include the ambient sound, foley or score for the scene.

-Round robin style music writing.

-Pick a sample that must be included in a finished song.

-Pick an instrument or chord that must be used.

-What if artist X wrote music? Example: Salvador Dali

-Fictional Music Genres. Example: Tomato House Jazz

-Musical contradicts. Example: a sad sounding country song about what a wonderful day you are having.

-Tiny music: Example see the Dead Kennedys "I like short songs"

-Write a song demo for a band or artist you admire and play them as a character.

-A song response. Write a song from the other characters perspective.

More later...
